Intro to Woods

Prerequisite: None                                Duration: One Semester

 

Students enrolled in this course will be exposed to wood materials, measurements, basic hand tools and power machines, bill of materials, and the construction of basic woodworking processes and projects. 

 

The students will gain hands-on expereince in a safe and supervised environment in which they will explore basic techniques and woodworking skills. All projects that the students construct will become the property of the students. 

 

Consumed materials will need to be purchased by the students. 

Woods 1, 2 or 3

Prerequisite: Passing grade in Intro to woods, woods 1 or woods 2 depending on which level enrolled. 

 

Students in these year long classes will have the opportunity to advance their skills in the wood working course programs. 

 

Advanced projects and skills are focused on and the students have the opportunity to design their own projects.

Fundamentals of Construction
 

Prerequisite: Passing grade in Intro to woods

 

Duration: 1 Semester

 

Students enrolled in this course are offered the opportunity to gain exposure to the construction industry. They will learn about site preperation, material and estimation, job site safety, and will construct a shed under the supervision of their instructor. 

 

Students will focus on framing, sheathing, roof construction, and doors and windows. If time allows the students may be exposed to some basic wiring and additional applications.

Computer Aided Drafting (CADD)

Prerequisite: None                                     Duration: 1 Semester

 

Students enrolled in this course will be exposed to basic skills and functions of computer aided drafting programs and software. In addition to 2 and 3 dimensional mechanical drawings the students will spend approximately 9 weeks completing architectural plans and elevations. 

 

If time allows, students that are mastering the content may be exposed to the animation capacities of the software. 

 

For this course we will be utilizing Autodesk and Fusion 360!

Intro to Machining and Metals
 

Prerequisite: None                                                   Duration: 1 Semester

 

On the other end of the spectrum we also offer metals courses at RFHS. This class is designed similarly to Intro to woods in the fact that it is an exploratoy course into the world of metal machinging and processes. Students will be exposed to metal shaping, material estimation, measurments, and project construction. Students will be using mills, lathes, cnc plasma cutting, and foundry processes. 

 

Just like all other project based classes, students are responsible for any materials used and will be able to take home their projects on completion.

Metals 1

Prerequisite: Passing Grade in Intro to Metals

 

Duration: 1 Year

 

Students in this course will spend an entire year focusing on advanced machining processes. Students will be required to design and create their own projects at some point during the course.

Welding 1 and 2
 
 

Prerequisite: Passing grade in Intro to metals

 

Duration: 1 Semester for each course

 

Students enrolled in these courses will be exposed to oxy-acetylene cutting and welding, plasma cutting, arc welding, mig welding, and tig welding. Students will have to master skills in multiple positions that include flat, vertical, horizontal and overhead. 

 

Students will also be exposed to pipe welding and project design. 

Power Mechanics

Prerequisite: Passing Grade in Intro to Metals

 

Duration: 1 Semester

 

Students in this course will spend a semester learning about 2 and 4 cycle small gas engines. They will have to provide a 4 cycle engine to tear down and rebuild within the course.
